The Serra de Sicó is a mountain range starting at the eastern borders of Pombal, just a short drive away from Yuccasa. At is highest peak, 559 meters above sea level, you can find a lookout point (Miradouro) with a wooden construction. It is also home to the Buracas do Casmilo, a hiking area with some caves and Vale de Poios, another hiking and sports climbing area.
Combine your hike with a little swing on the nearby Baloiço Degracias for some extra fun.
About 30 minutes drive from Yuccasa, right next to the Ruins of Conimbriga, you can find a nice hiking area called Passadiços de Rio dos Mouros. Most of the trail followes the path of the river including the waterfall (Cascata). When we visited the trail in December, however, the river was dry. The walk and the river bedding itself were still very pretty and it was fun to walk on the bedding. The boardwalk and bridge were well maintained and worth the visit.
Ever wanted to take a dip underneath a waterfall? Around 45 minutes North-East of our accommodation you can find Cascata da Peda da Ferida, a waterfall ending in a little (very cold) basin. You can reach the waterfall by following a path down from the Miradouro, although this path requires solid shoes and some skills. The hike itself is adventurous and fun for kids, although in wintertimes the river can expand outside the bedding making passage impossible. Worth a visit!
Mata do Buçaco is a unique and enchanting destination, home to monumental buildings surrounded by a vast botanical forest with over 700 different plant species, many of which are rare or exotic. The area has a fairytale-like charm, enhanced by the striking Buçaco Palace, partially designed by the architect who designed Quinta da Regaleira, and the famous 144-step staircase leading to the Cruz Alta viewpoint.
