Aveiro, known as the “Venice of Portugal,” is famous for its picturesque canals and colorful Gondola Boats. A boat tour through the canals gives a perfect impression of the city. And from the city itself it’s just a little drive to Costa Nova, a coastal area famous for its striped houses in bold colors of red, blue, green, and yellow.
Mata do Bussaco is a lush and historic forest filled with winding paths, giant trees and hidden corners to explore. Once a royal hunting ground and later home to a Carmelite monastery, it’s a peaceful place for long walks, quiet moments and a touch of mystery. Ideal for nature lovers who enjoy combining scenery with a bit of history.
Coimbra is a vibrant university city with a rich history and a relaxed atmosphere. Wander through narrow streets, visit the famous hilltop university and enjoy views over the Mondego River. With its mix of culture, cafés and lively squares, Coimbra makes for a perfect day trip filled with character and charm.
Lago Azul, just outside Tomar, is a beautiful lake surrounded by forested hills and calm beaches. In summer it’s a popular spot for swimming, picnics and spending a relaxed day by the water. The lake is also home to a wakeboard park, making it a great place for those who enjoy a bit of action alongside nature and cooling off on warm days.
Fragas de São Simão is a lovely spot to enjoy nature, with its dramatic cliffs and clear river. Take a walk along the paths, admire the rock formations, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
If you like, you can even dip your feet in the cool river or have a quiet picnic by the water. It’s a simple, refreshing spot that’s perfect for a gentle adventure, some fresh air, and a few beautiful photos.
The medieval town of Óbidos is like stepping into a fairy tale. The well-preserved Castle can be spotted from far away and the town itself is surrounded by Medival townwalls. Óbidos is also famous for its Ginja de Óbidos, a cherry liqueur served in chocolate cups. The charming streets can be crowded in summer, but the town is more than worth a visit.
Cascata Pedra da Ferida is a hidden waterfall reached by a scenic and slightly adventurous walk through nature. The path isn’t suitable for flip-flops or high heels, but well worth the effort once you arrive. Near the start you’ll find a beautiful miradouro overlooking the valley, and further downstream lies Praia Fluvial da Louçainha, a natural river beach perfect for a refreshing swim after your hike.
